Discraft

Introduction to Discraft

Discraft was founded in 1979 in Michigan, USA, and has since worked with the development of discs for multiple sports, including ultimate frisbee, freestyle, and disc golf. The first Discraft discs were created in response to inconsistencies in the market, with a clear goal of delivering more stable and reliable products for players.

This philosophy has shaped Discraft’s development ever since. Experience and knowledge from some of the sport’s most accomplished professionals and disc experts have helped form the lineup, with a consistent focus on quality and reliability. Today, disc golf is Discraft’s primary focus, and all Discraft discs are still produced in the USA. Over the years, Discraft has sponsored multiple world champions in disc golf and has played a central role in the sport’s global growth.

Discraft plastics

Discraft produces its discs in a wide range of plastic types that vary in grip, durability, and overall feel. Among the most well-known standard plastics are Z-Line, which is highly durable and maintains its flight characteristics over time, and ESP, which combines strong grip with high durability.

Plastics such as Jawbreaker and Big Z are also commonly used, along with variations featuring effects like FLX or Glow to create different versions of the plastics. These combinations provide broad variety within the Discraft lineup and also form the basis for regular releases of special blends and limited editions. These releases often coincide with players, events, or special occasions. Below, you’ll find an overview of the most common plastic types along with their Grip and Durability ratings from Discraft.

Popular Discraft discs

Over many years, Discraft has built an extensive lineup of disc golf discs and continues to release new models and editions. New releases include both permanent additions to the lineup and special releases connected to players, signature series, and tournaments. This allows the Discraft lineup to evolve alongside the sport.

Within the Discraft lineup are several discs that have become popular choices among disc golf players. Buzzz is a midrange known for its very straight and controllable flight. Buzzz is especially associated with its standard editions in ESP plastic and Z-Line plastic, but it is also available in many other variations. Luna is a putter developed in collaboration with multi-time world champion Paul McBeth and is particularly known for its Special Blend edition, while also being released regularly in a wide range of special editions. Zone is an overstable approach disc often associated with ESP plastic and Z-Line plastic, but it is also available in several alternative versions offering different grip and stability.

Discraft sponsored players

Discraft sponsors a number of professional disc golf players who represent the brand on the international stage. Sponsorships have long been part of Discraft’s presence in the sport and also provide valuable feedback from players competing at the highest level.

Among the most well-known players sponsored by Discraft are Paul McBeth and Paige Pierce. Both have played a significant role in Discraft’s visibility and have been involved in the development of selected discs. Their experience from professional disc golf has helped shape several of the models that are part of the current Discraft lineup.

Discraft flight chart

To help both new and experienced disc golf players navigate the wide range of Discraft discs, Discraft has developed a flight chart. It provides an overview of how the different discs are designed to fly and highlights which models are better suited for beginners or more experienced players.

On the Discraft flight chart, you can see how the various discs compare to one another. Their placement shows both distance potential and expected stability when thrown by an experienced player. Stability indicates whether a disc is expected to turn right, fly straight, or fade left.
