A midrange for disc golf is a disc used on the shorter throws, typically from 20 to 60 meters. It may be that you have to throw through a narrow fairway in the forest, or that you have to cover the last distance to the basket. A midrange is a very important disc for many players and there is a huge selection of midranges from all the different manufacturers.

At Disc Tree we always have a great selection of discs and once you've found your next midrange you can also see all our putters, fairway drivers and distance drivers. As a new disc golf player you can also find a midrange in one of our beginner-friendly disc golf starter set .

Which midrange should I choose?

When choosing your next midrange, it is good to have an idea of what you would like to use the disc for. Many players have 3-5 different midrange discs in their bag when they are out playing. For example, it could be:

  • An unstable midrange to throw in headwinds or when you want to curve a bit with the direction in which the disc spins in the throw.
  • A stable midrange for straight throws.
  • An overstable midrange to throw in headwinds or when looking for a reliable disc that always ends with a marked fade against the direction in which the disc spins in the throw.

To judge whether a midrange is understable, stable or overstable, you can look at the disc's flight numbers. These are the 4 numbers that are on the disc, and which are shown on all our golf discs in the shop. In general, one can say that a disc is understable if the sum of the "turn" and "fade" is less than -1, it is stable if the sum is between -1 and 1, and it is overstable if sums is greater than 1.
