Overmold Discs for disc golf
Overmold discs are a specific type of disc golf discs that have a unique construction consisting of several types of plastic. Regular discs are usually produced as a single piece of plastic by injection molding. However, Overmold discs have an extra layer or section of a different material around the edge of the disc.
The term "overmold" comes from the fact that one type of plastic is molded over another. The most common construction includes a softer, more rubbery material forming the outer edge of the disc, while a firmer plastic forms the central part of the disc.
GYRO Overmold from MVP
American MVP Network , which produces discs for the brands MVP and Axiom, is particularly known for the fact that all their discs are overmold. They have a very special GYRO technique that allows them to optimize how the weight of the disc is distributed. MVP discs can be recognized by the fact that they always have a black edge, while Axioms use many different colors in the edge. You can read more about MVP's GYRO technology on their own website .
What is the difference between Overmold and Halo discs?
Overmold and Halo discs have in common that both types of discs visually have a ring around the edge of the disc in a different color than the rest of the disc. The difference between the two types of discs is that while halo discs are cast in one piece, overmolds are typically composed of two different plastics. In the case of Halo discs, it is therefore most often the same type of plastic in a different color that is mixed, while in the case of Overmold discs, it is two different plastics that have been put together.
